The meeting of creditors is routinely referred to as the “341 meeting”. The reference comes from the section of the Bankruptcy Code requiring the meeting to be held. The meeting is usually held between 21 and 40 days after your case is filed. The meeting is intended to provide the bankruptcy trustee and your creditors with an opportunity to ask questions about your bankruptcy paperwork and other related matters. In my experience, most meetings last about 5 minutes and creditors rarely attend. You will be required to verify your identity and social secuirty number at the meeting. Be sure to bring a picture ID and your social security card.
