The Rhode Island Landlord and Tenant Act is the law governing most residential landlord and tenant realtionships. It can be found under the Rhode Island General Laws at Title 34 Chapter 18, commonly cited as R.I.G.L. 34-18-1 et. seq.
The Landlord and Tenant Act sets out the rights and responsibilties of landlords and tenants. Among other things, it restricts the amount of security deposit that can be collected by a landlord, establishes the minimum hability requirements for rental units, and prohibits any form of self-help eviction.
