A constable is a person who is authorized by law to serve legal process, including lawsuits, writs and attachments. Depending on the jurisdiction, the court rules may require that legal process and writs only be served by a constable (or sheriff). Constables will usually charge a fee for their services, with the fee often being capped by the law regualating constables.
